This Green Lantern was Alan Scott, a railroad engineer who had come into possession of a magic lantern. The limitations of the ring were that it had to be "charged" every 24 hours. But in later comics thus This Green Lantern was Hal Jordan, a test pilot who was given a power ring by a dying alien, Abin Sur, and who became a member of the Green Lantern Corps, an interstellar organization of police overseen by the Guardians of the Universe. So there has been green lanterns here before the initail Green lantern we know of. Which brought about the movie that is about to be released into the theathers this summer 2011.

The Green Lantern gets his power from the ring that he posses. Each Green Lantern is choosen to be a green lantern.The power within the ring is very powerful and is designed to become Gaurdians of the Universe. Each Green lantern must posses the power and will to yeild the rings power otherwise the ring would be usless to them.
