Captain America was made literally to fight for America in the time of war, and when war did not need him he fought along side other super hero's
( Avengers) to defeat many enemy's. Captain America fought in the World War II and somehow, was lost and mistaken for dead, Frozen in time he was to be awakened the near future to fulfill his purpose.
Ultimately I can say that Captain America was one of those super heroes who truly believed he alone could uplift this world from oppression and give back the people the justice that he so believed in. The real realization is that any super hero would know that they would need a colitiaion of super heroes to achieve any amount of success, that is why the Avengers where united.
